With increasing infectious disease challenges, the need for eliminating and controlling viruses, bacteria, mold spores and pathogens from the air in containment or hospital isolation rooms and containment tents is a critical requirement. The SteriSpace™  Advanced Air Sterilization System is an innovative air sterilization technology that can destroy airborne biological contaminants. SteriSpace™ uses a patented compressive heating technology to eliminate airborne biological pathogens such as bacteria, viruses, and spores, greater than 99.9999% effectiveness (6-log kill)--with no filters or bulbs to replace. It is an effective, low-maintenance method to improve and control air quality and sterilize the air we breathe. Independent third-party testing has demonstrated an efficacy of >99.9999% of hardy bacterial spores including but not limited to Anthrax and Bacillus globigii, vegetative bacteria, viruses, and thermally resistant bacteria such as Bacillus stearothermophilus, as well as eliminating many VOC's, CO2, odors and other polllutants from the space.

SteriSpace™ functions by moving large masses of air into a compressor.  A mechanical blower compresses and moves the contaminated air.  It rapidly compresses the flowing air stream and packs the air into a small volume chamber using a positive displacement pump.  The rapid compression causes intense heating of the pathogen laden air, producing internal treatment temperatures in the range of 240 °C (464 °F).  The result is the consistent incineration-killing of all airborne biological contaminants contained in the air stream.

To prevent an infectious patient from spreading infection to others, they can be housed in negative pressure rooms. These rooms have a net lower pressure inside the room than outside the room, preventing contaminated air from flowing out of the room through any gaps or leaks.To protect patients and workers from infectious airborne pathogens outside the space, positive pressure can also be maintained within the room with the unit's output blowing sterilized air into the space, preventing contaminated air from flowing back into the room through any gaps or leaks (i.e. under the door), a method commonly used for surgery rooms and to house immune-compromised patients. 

The air in the cabin space shared by commuters in aircraft, trains, subways and buses is notorious for airborne disease transmission and pollution exposure.  Recirculating the internal air with the SteriSpace technology will substantially improve air quality, reduce the spread of airborne viruses and bacteria, and can also reduce the number of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s) and organic particles from diesel exhaust. The SteriSpace™ technology can be designed to integrate into the air handling systems of aircraft. The improved air quality on-board will have a positive impact on the health of both passengers and crew, while also helping to mitigate the risk of spreading infections during long flights.
